Alright, let’s get into it. We called in the experts from QUE Colour in Darlinghurst to ask their advice on how to get the most out of your curl type. Founder Monique Mcmahon breaks down the 4 products in this range into 2 routines depending on the tightness of your curl to make it easy to navigate.

For Wavy/ Lightly Coiled hair types

The Luscious Curl Cleansing Conditioner is an innovative formula, think of it as a hybrid between a shampoo + conditioner. The ingredients include silky chia seed oil which is rich in Omega 3 and 6 to boost gloss and add shine. Nigella seed oil works to smooth and tame the hair. Shea butter deeply nourishes and softens to make combing through super easy! 

Application Tips

 Simply apply like your regular shampoo, working from roots to lengths and lightly emulsifying the product at your roots. Rather than rinsing immediately as you would with a regular shampoo,  leave this product in for about 2 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

The Luscious Curl Defining Cream with chia seed oil:  sleek lightweight cream which is perfect on wet hair before styling and on dry hair when you’re in need of some anti frizz. It’s lightweight so you don’t get the dreaded “crunch” or “oil slick” vibes. Nigella Seed oil leaves the hair ultra soft while protein-rich flaxseed milk helps to define curls and tame frizz for weightless natural curls .

Application Tips

Firstly, as with any product application for curls, it is essential that you do not towel dry your hair, especially not with a cotton towel!

We know it looks chic twisted in a towel turban but this is a massive no no if you’re wanting to eliminate frizz. Experts recommend using an old t-shirt or microfibre hair towel if you must use one.

To start with, take a 20 cent piece of the cream between your palms and work them together. Distributing the product on your hands like this helps for even distribution through your curls. Apply to damp hair working from root to tip and pay attention to your hairline. Now it’s time to style! You can Blow-dry using a diffuser or air-dry. For even bouncier curls, apply to dry hair as a touch up.

For tightly coiled curly hair types

The Luscious Curl Cleansing Balm with Kokum Butter: Just like a cleansing balm is perfect for sensitive skin, this low foaming cleanser is designed to detangle and condition super dry/brittle fine hair. Leaving a really moisturised finish. The formula works to nurture the hair and transforms into a milky lather as it washes the hair. The hero ingredient here is kokum butter. It works with silky chia seed oil to boost glossy shine with their naturally occurring Omega 6 and 9. Also, Jojoba and Sunflower Seed Oil to enhance your natural curly hair shape and definition. 

Application Tips

This will not foam like your regular shampoo does. So don’t expect a massive bubble! instead it will coat and gently cleanse the hair so make sure your hair is thoroughly wet before applying. 

Massage through the hair root to tip and slightly lather, you do not need to follow this with a conditioner! 

The Luscious Curl Defining Butter with Kokum Butter: The defining butter is richer than the defining cream. This is because Kokum Butter is the hero ingredient here, not only does it strengthen your hair from the roots, it also won’t clog pores. It’s super moisturising so prevents hair damage and breakage without the oily feeling. Protein rich flaxseed milk will help to define the hair for a frizz free finish. 

Application Tips: 

Apply on very wet damp hair in a raking motion to distribute the product evenly. This will detangle your curls and give you a good foundation for styling. Now you can scrunch (if this is a method you like) from the ends of your hair to press excess product into the ends. Once dry, you can twist any sections that look unruly individually around your fingers with a little more product to help define them for the perfect anti frizz finish!

 How to make curls last longer?

Get the most from your freshly washed hair and extend time between washes with the ultimate must-know hacks from Monique Mcmahon from QUE Colour in Darlinghurst.  

1. Skip the hairbrush. Seriously, just don’t pick it up. Especially when your hair is dry! If you need to, use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers.

1. Sleep on Silk or Satin. The silk pillowcase trend was big for a reason... It works. Whilst you sleep, tossing and turning creates friction between our hair and the pillow causing tangles, split ends and breakage. Silk pillowcases dramatically reduce this friction by helping your hair to retain moisture.  With curly hair the main point here we’re trying to hone in is moisture is key. So wherever you can lock that moisture in is a win! 
   
   
2. Stretch out wash times by opting for a trending wet look (achieved by applying more defining butter through the hair). OR tied back in a super sleek bun using the defining cream with face framing areas left out!
